PDK Airport-Community Conflict
The community wants the Airport Director to control noise.
The Airport Director wants the Board of Commissioners to
pass an ordinance to control landowners' use of their land
based on the desire to protect airport users who pollute our
communities.
The
origin of the PDK Airport-Community conflict was inherent in
these two wants.
To protect our quality of life and investment in our homes
the community wants to participate in the writing of policy
and procedure documents that will govern the operation and
growth of PDK.
The Airport Director does not want the community involved
until irreversible decisions are made.
The
continuation of the PDK Airport-Community conflict is
inherent in these two wants.
Relative to PDK the community wants elected officials to
represent the needs of the citizens who elect them.
The Airport Director wants the Board of Commissioners to
adopt the views of FAA officials who are unelected and funded
by our tax dollars.
The
future of the PDK Airport-Community conflict is inherent in
the power struggle between these two wants.
The community demands a voice in operation of our
county-owned airport to protect our quality of life.
The Airport Director (a county employee)
wants to expand airport operations to the detriment of the
community's quality of life.
The
future of our community rests on the power our elected
officials cede to the Airport Director and the FAA. To
protect our community our voices must be heard.
