PDK Watch's Position on the proposed FAA grant request:

PDK Watch supports appropriate efforts, acting within the longstanding weight-limit policies established by DeKalb County, to increase the safety of PDK Airport and avoid any potential for DeKalb County liability that might result from an unsafe facility.  Therefore, we are requesting that you submit an application to the FAA for funds to rehabilitate the taxiways at PDK to engineering specifications that limit the normal weight bearing capacity of the taxiways to 66,000 pounds.

This is the weight limit that DeKalb County and the FAA  assured the Eleventh Circuit Court  was the standard for the airport and that the Court relied upon in making its determination that the 1988 runway extension was permissable without an environmental impact statement.  This 66,000 lb. weight limit for planes has repeatedly been reaffirmed by the County over the past several decades.
