Lee Remmel, Airport Director
DeKalb Peachtree Airport

212 Administration Building
2000 Airport Road

Atlanta, Georgia 30341

January 26, 2001

Mr. Remmel:

I am writing today speaking for the community that lives near the airport. This request represents the consensus of thirty-three homeowners' associations that include approximately ten thousand homes in the North DeKalb area. The purpose of my letter is to request your assistance. Specifically, I request your partnership in working with the community to alleviate airport related issues that adversely affect our quality of life.

We desire to live in harmony with the airport and with airport operations. To achieve this goal, we request your cooperation and commitment in working with us to address the concerns listed below.

Our vision of making DeKalb County the most liveable county in Georgia includes an airport where the airport director:

»      informs the community of issues, proposals or activities that have the potential to affect the community's quality of life.

»      responds to each citizen's question on airport policy and operations openly, completely and in a timely manner .

»      demonstrates a reduction in night flights and a reduction in intrusive daytime noise (above 65 decibels.)

»      makes all airport records accessible to the community.

»      seeks ideas and use suggestions and recommendations from the Airport Advisory Board and from concerned citizens on matters of airport policy and operations.

»      utilizes input from the community on issues that affect the community.

»      follows the DeKalb Airport Master Plan.

»      upholds the US Court of Appeals, 11th Circuit, confirming the weight of planes using the airport to 66,000 pounds.

Attached is a list of our issues of concern that I compiled after meeting and speaking to my neighbors, civic leaders, and homeowners' association members. I believe this list fairly reflects the status of operations at the airport today. I also provide suggestions on how to reach the status the community wants. I request your review of the attached list.

Speaking for PDK Watch, I am seeking your commitment to reach the desired community status. Please respond to my request in writing and state your willingness to meet these community goals. I request your cooperation in providing a timetable and schedule listing how the Airport staff will accomplish these goals. Please respond within fourteen days of your receipt of this letter. PDK Watch looks forward to working with you in a cooperative manner. We ask your assistance and support to make DeKalb County the most liveable county in Georgia.

Sincerely yours,

David Green
